Each item in the GEO tree can have one or more graphics assigned to it. The graphic(s) are created using Viewbuilder. When you create a graphic you can place a hyperlink anywhere on the Viewbuilder-created graphic. Once you assign the graphic to the item in the GEO tree, you click on that item in the GEO tree. The graphic displays, and part of the graphic is the hyperlink to your JACE.
The hyperlink is static. You create it in Viewbuilder and to change the hyperlink you have to alter your graphic. If you are working on a licensed WebCTRL server, the owner should have a WebCTRL installation disc.
On that disc are the WebCTRL development tools; Viewbuilder, Logicbuilder, Sitebuilder, and the WebCTRL server too. That is, unless the installing controls contractor didn't leave the disc with the owner.
In which case you've got to get it from your local ALC dealer. And no, changing or adding a graphic does not mess up the system functionally at all unless you put editable points on the graphic than are set up to change parameters in associated control programs. But a view-only graphic (including a graphic with hyperlinks) won't effect anything. WebCtrl is not like InterOp or Supervision was, you do not load any 'tools' seperately. Also WebCtrl will not run if it's not a licensed copy, unlike SUPERVISION that would run for 4 days after load until you registered it. When you are on the login screen, the license is what makes the title block show above the login box like 'Registered to Joe Schmoe Middle School' If they loaded WebCtrl, they have ViewBuilder and SiteBuilder on there.
Someone may not have created an IKON for it, but it's there. Browse to WebCtrl3.0 or WebCtrl 4.1 (whichever applies) look for VIEWBUILDER.exe, but not the ICON file that will be right by it, right click and say 'CREATE SHORTCUT', drag it to your desktop or folder and you're good to go. Be sure to use VIEWBUILDER, not VIEWBUILDER for WAP. You cannot screw up your system by editing the graphic, but you can seriously screw up your graphics.
ViewBuilder, IMO, is not that easy to use. Of course I'm an old dog who cut my teeth on the older DRAW software. FYI the HELP files are in each package, there are no manuals. Everything that you need to self teach is at your fingertips. Another issue, if you're not working on a 'native' WebCtrl system, then you need to edit the graphic in DRAW and then do an InterOp Conversion via the ICW wizard.
I would suggest that you figure out what you have first. Once you can open VIEWBUILDER, copy an existing link and edit it to hyperlink to what you need. To find the graphic name, go to the graphic that you need to edit, go to manual commands and type whereami that will give you the name of the graphic, find it in VIEWBUILDER and open it. The graphic will be a.view file. Last edited by hotrod53; at 09:59 PM. I need to add a link to a JACE from a Automated Logic WebCTRL home page.
There is a tree on the left hand side that lists the customers different buildings. I've looked around, but I can't figure out how to add a hyperlink to this tree.
You have to use Viewbuilder and add a link (by right clicking on the part that you want to link to & select link) and put a # and the name of the menu that You want to link to as in (#chiller1) or as long as you know the IP address of the server point your browser to it. You can set it up to automatically redirect the client to the JACE if you're a little savvy with web coding.
You'll have to create a geographical location and attach a graphic page to it but you can code the graphics page to automatically redirect the user to the JACE so they don't have to click the location on the geo tree and then click another link to actually go there. I'll try and write up more detailed instructions tomorrow when I can sit in front of the system but using the 'HTML' object in ViewBuilder will allow you to use some code similar to: which would redirect anyone accessing that page to the URL of your choosing. You may also want to place an actual link on that graphics page in case it fails for some or all users. Depending on the browser and security settings automatic redirects may not work.
A simple link to it might be fine but I find the fewer number of steps and simpler the better for the end user. Just my 2 cents worth. R/ D1G Last edited by D1G; at 02:03 AM.
